In this guide, we will explore the details, fitting, and tactics of the Minmatar Slasher. The PVP fit Slasher is a more difficult ship to fly properly in PVP. It sacrifices tank, and a bit of damage, for a large increase in speed. However, it serves as a great platform for practicing range control, an important skill, and one that is critical when flying the Slasher.
What is the Slasher?
The Slasher is a more difficult frigate to use for solo PVP due to its lack of tank. With its high speed and low signature radius, the Slasher excels at avoiding enemy guns. The hull offers a 5% bonus to damage of small projectile turrets per level, as well as a 7.5% bonus to tracking for small projectile turrets per level. It also offers a role bonus, an 80% decrease in capacitor cost of propulsion jamming equipment.
These bonus make the Slasher excellent in its role: hold enemies in place and beat them to death, moving too fast for them to hit you. However, this strength may also be its greatest weakness. With its reliance on speed to mitigate damage in addition to a minimal tank, if the Slasher gets pinned, it’s as good as dead.
In addition, the Slasher is a T1 Frigate. It is easy to train into, and the hull is quite cheap. This ship is ideal for pilots looking to hone their kiting, range control, and speed tanking skills.
Solo PVP Fit Slasher
We’ll go over two Slasher fits in this guide. as well as the tactics required to fly them effectively. The first is a basic solo PVP fit Slasher. We will refer to this as the Web Fit.
[Slasher, PvP Fit Slasher + Web] 200mm AutoCannon II 200mm AutoCannon II 200mm AutoCannon II Medium Ancillary Shield Booster 1MN Afterburner II X5 Enduring Stasis Webifier J5b Enduring Warp Scrambler Type-D Restrained Nanofiber Structure Damage Control II Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I Barrage S x720 Republic Fleet EMP S x720 Republic Fleet Fusion S x720 Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S x720 Navy Cap Booster 50 x18
The first fit features 200mm AutoCannons, and a mixed speed/shield tank. A Medium Ancillary Shield Booster will provide a few repair cycles. Meanwhile, the Nanofiber Structure will provide a speed boost to minimize incoming damage.
The second fit, which we will refer to as the Disruptor Fit, can be seen below.
[Slasher, PvP Fit Slasher + Disruptor] IFFA Compact Damage Control Overdrive Injector System II 1MN Afterburner II J5b Enduring Warp Scrambler DDO Scoped Tracking Disruptor I,Optimal Range Disruption Script Medium Ancillary Shield Booster,Navy Cap Booster 50 Small Energy Neutralizer I 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II,Republic Fleet EMP S Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Metastasis Adjuster I Small Projectile Metastasis Adjuster I Barrage S x720 Republic Fleet EMP S x720 Republic Fleet Fusion S x720 Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S x720 Tracking Speed Disruption Script x1
This fit swaps the webifier for a Tracking Disruptor. This allows the fit to rely more on the speed tank, relying on outrunning or outranging your opponent’s guns. Note that the Energy Neutralizer in this fit cannot be onlined. It serves to dissipate heat from overheating the guns during a fight.
The Web PVP fit Slasher will fly similar to the PVP fit Rifter at close range. While the Slasher doesn’t quite have the long range of the Rifter, it is much better at range control. It performs best against kiting ships, such as beam laser fit Imperial Navy Slicers. Its high speed allows you to close in on your opponent, while the scrambler and stasis webifier let you lock them down. You can utilize the slingshot technique to capture an opponent attempting to kite you. Once the opponent is caught, keep a tight orbit. Your high speed and low signature radius will leave your opponent struggling to hit you, while your guns have an easy time keeping a bead due to the hull’s tracking bonus. Make sure to fully understand gun mechanics, as they are the basis of the Slasher’s speed tank.
Remember to know your enemy. Look for ships with hull bonuses to optimal range and falloff, as they are more likely sniper platforms. These are your easiest targets, as you can fly under their guns and rip them to shreds. Even missile kiting ships, such as the Condor, can be easy prey for a Slasher. They have minimal tanks, but are fit for much longer range engagements. If you can catch one in your grasp, you can annihilate it.
The Disruptor PVP fit Slasher is a difficult bird to fly. By doubling down on the speed tank, there is less room for error. This requires the successful utilization of the Slasher’s superior range control abilities. This fit excels at fighting both snipers and close range brawlers. While the Slasher has no range bonuses, its projectile turrets have a naturally large optimal range and falloff.
If fighting a brawler, like the Merlin or Incursus, load up the Optimal Range script and keep a 5-6km orbit around your target. Their guns will have a great deal of trouble reaching you, while your accuracy will decrease minimally. If fighting a kiting ship, like an Atron, load up the Tracking Speed script and keep a tight orbit at 500 meters. The kiter’s guns will miss nearly every shot against you, and you’ll be able to tear them apart.
Again, know your enemy. With this fit, it is vital to pick your fights. Missile ships could rip you to shreds, immune to your tracking disruption. However, against the right targets, this fit will have no trouble performing. Practice slingshotting to keep range control when facing a kiting ship. Read up on gun mechanics to fully understand the nature of your tank, and how to take advantage of your enemy’s reduced tracking. The PVP fit Slasher is a great ship, but one that requires a good deal of skill to properly utilize.
